Summary

It’s no doubt that the Schwinn 840 Treadmill is a modern treadmill that may not be exactly considered a budget treadmill or a very expensive one either, since the costs and features represent product category that belongs somewhere in the middle. However, although the motor, cushioning, suspensions and speed/incline levels are quite satisfactory, it’s the overall design and component quality that lacks.

Whenever we’re looking to buy some kind of product form the market, we usually have quite a few options and a pretty straightforward criterion to reach an eventual decision, but that may not always be the case. The bigger the purchase, the bigger the investment, and consequently, the bigger the risk involved.

In order to make the investment as profitable as possible the scrutiny of products understandably gets more complicated. Nowadays, treadmills come in all sizes, styles and prices, so that leaves us with all kinds of factors to take into account before reaching a conclusion. If you consider the Schwinn 840 Treadmill, we need to thoroughly inspect the specifications to judge its merit.

Sufficient Speeds and Inclines

The Schwinn 840 treadmill manages to follow its predecessors’ composition of a powerful motor (2.5 CHP) which is capable of supporting heavy users while supplying them speeds up to 10 mph on a very spacious running deck. The deck itself is cushioned for a more comfortable running motion, while the well-built suspensions help in preventing extra pressure on the joints.

The dual-window console can display relevant information and contains 16 workout programmes for the user’s added benefit. Incline levels are also adjustable to a maximum of 10%, however the transitions may not be smooth, but in abrupt discrete pre-set levels.

Numerous Limitations

Although the treadmill offers some additional benefits aside from the machinery as well such as the cooling fan, transport wheels, pulse sensors and accessory/magazine holders, the lack of entertainment options such as MP3, USB, AUX or a sound system are massive drawbacks. Furthermore, the console display is anything but modern and the warranties aren’t that great either.

Due to the poor build of the deck, the term ‘running machine’ may not suit the Schwinn 840 since the treadmill is either only fit for walking/slow running or primarily for the use of elderly people.

Verdict

It’s no doubt that the Schwinn 840 Treadmill is a modern treadmill that may not be exactly considered a budget treadmill or a very expensive one either, since the costs and features represent product category that belongs somewhere in the middle. However, although the motor, cushioning, suspensions and speed/incline levels are quite satisfactory, it’s the overall design and component quality that lacks.

Its poor build quality makes it suitable only for walking/light jogging, there aren’t any multimedia options available and the warranty isn’t as good either. If you’re looking for a machine capable of providing light intensity workouts without considerably damaging your budget, it will do the job well, but if you’re looking for more options, you can find better treadmills in this price-range, so we won’t really recommend it.
